#10: The Hero's Journey

In This Week’s Call, We Will...

Step into The Hero’s Journey—not just a storytelling framework but a blueprint for how we face and overcome challenges in life, fitness, and adventure. Whether you're standing at the edge of a big decision, in the trenches of training, or feeling stuck in a cycle of hesitation, this session is about understanding where you are in your journey and how to keep moving forward.

This is a workshop-style discussion, meaning we’re not just talking theory—we’re actively applying it to your life. This session is about recognizing where you are, identifying the obstacles ahead, and building a mindset that allows you to keep pushing through, no matter what.

How This Workshop Will Work

We’ll break this down into ten key stages—just like the classic Hero’s Journey you see in books and films. But instead of Frodo, Luke Skywalker, or Rocky Balboa, you are the main character. Throughout the call, I'll challenge you to think about your own experiences, where you might be stuck, and how you can push forward.

  • Step 1: The Ordinary World – Where are you now? This is your comfort zone, your daily routine, the place where life feels “normal” but might also feel stagnant.
  • Step 2: The Call to Adventure – What is pulling you toward change? Maybe it’s a desire for more fitness, confidence, or adventure. Maybe it’s that nagging feeling that you’re capable of more. This is the moment you recognize that something has to shift.
  • Step 3: Refusing the Call – This is where fear, doubt, and hesitation creep in. Maybe you’re afraid of failing. Maybe you don’t think you have the time or energy. Maybe you’ve convinced yourself that now isn’t the right time. Sound familiar?
  • Step 4: Meeting the Mentor – Enter guidance, structure, and support. This could be a coach, a friend, or a book, but it’s the moment where you stop going it alone and start learning how to move forward with help.

At this point in the session, we’ll pause and reflect on your own journey.
📌 What stage are you in right now?
📌 What does your “Call to Adventure” look like?
📌 What’s holding you back from taking the next step?

From here, we move into the action phase:

  • Step 5: Crossing the Threshold – This is the commitment. It’s signing up for the challenge, showing up to training, making that difficult decision. It’s when you officially start your journey and there’s no turning back.
  • Step 6: Tests, Allies, and Enemies – The struggles that make you question yourself. The setbacks, failures, and frustrations. The people who lift you up and the ones who drag you down. This is the reality of the path ahead.
  • Step 7: The Innermost CaveThe hardest moment. This is where everything inside you wants to give up. It could be exhaustion, self-doubt, fear of failure, or even a major setback. This is where most people quit.
  • Step 8: The Ordeal – The battle. The moment where you find out what you’re made of. The moment where you decide that no matter how hard it is, you’re going to keep going.

At this point in the session, we’ll have another interactive check-in.
📌 Have you ever faced an "Innermost Cave" moment?
📌 What got you through it?
📌 If you’re facing it now, what’s your next step?

Then, we move into the transformation phase:

  • Step 9: The RewardThe breakthrough moment. The sense of accomplishment. The realization that you’re stronger, more capable, and more resilient than you thought.
  • Step 10: The Road Back – Integrating what you’ve learned. Returning to “normal life,” but as a different person. Because once you’ve conquered a challenge, your baseline shifts—you’re not the same as when you started.

What You’ll Take Away from This Call

✅ A clear understanding of where you are in your own journey
Recognition of your roadblocks—and how to break through them
A strategy for moving forward, whether that’s in fitness, adventure, or personal growth
A stronger mindset, knowing that setbacks and struggles are part of the process, not a reason to quit

This isn’t just about adventure or fitness—it’s about learning how to navigate challenges in every area of life.

So, take a deep breath. Where are you in your Hero’s Journey?
Because the only way forward... is through.

Let’s get to work.
